This project was designed to stimulate the fullest and most rapid possible utilization of the Parent/Child Toy Lending Library. The Library is an eight-week course for parents of pre-school children. Parents learn how to teach concepts such as color matching, auditory discrimination, problem solving, and motor coordination using eight basic toys which can be borrowed from the Library. The activities to implement this program were planned in three phases. Phase I involved meeting with persons responsible for early childhood education to demonstrate the program and provide materials for use in Toy Library dissemination activities to their respective clients. The objective of Phase II was to establish 10 to 15 toy libraries in non-traditional educational settings, including public libraries, church groups, and day-care centers. Phase III would construct a network of consultants to train teachers/librarians to conduct the course for parents. Evaluation data from questionnaires elicited some criticisms of the program: the quality of the toys, the orientation for young children, and inadequate publicity. (Author/JAB)
