Described is a 10-step model of services for emotionally impaired elementary students which uses mainstreaming techniques and includes consultation, followup, parental involvement, team coordination, innovative programing, and coordination within the school district and community agencies. The model, which is in full compliance with P. L. 92-142 (Education for All Handicapped Children Act) and Michigan P. A. 198, is noted to focus on the least restrictive environment concept. The teacher's role in the model is outlined; and information on services provided by teachers, procedures and guidelines for placement in self-contained classrooms, the Michigan Special Education Code, and sample forms and checklists are appended.
