The quality standards by which graduate programs leading to a Master's degree may be judged are presented. Major emphasis is on the Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree programs with a few of the more widely-used professional degrees, such as Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) also being discussed. Summaries are provided on the history of the master's program, the responsibility of the institution for providing quality education, the organization of graduate work, the nature and types of master's degrees, master's degree titles, guidelines for the evaluation of programs, goals and objectives, program characteristics, the composition of the faculty, other faculty resources, and graduate students, and the physical facilities.
