- Summary:
-
A pilot project, conducted by California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, for the California State University and Colleges, investigated the value of the System of Interactive Guidance and Information (SIGI) as a career planning tool, and assessed its impact on the university's instructional timesharing computer from November 1977 to December 1978. Results indicated that: (1) undeclared majors, women, younger, and lower division students were overrepresented as SIGI users; (2) at least 94% of the student users gave SIGI a grade of A or B in terms of its interesing aspects; (3) students tended to more ably identify their values, occupational choices, and issues ragarding their career plans; (4) SIGI increased the productiveness of counselors' time; (5) faculty responses to SIGI were favorable; and (6) computer time allotted for SIGI was used efficiently.
