This document describes the planning and implementation of the 1979 Basic Educational Skills (BES) Project in the Palmdale and King schools of South Phoenix, Arizona. The program description includes some background information on the community, the school and the staff. This is followed by detailed analyses of the four program components: parent involvement; curriculum; teacher attitudes and behaviors; and continuity. These components are discussed in terms of current practices, goals for the future, and the interrelationship of the components. This description is designed to summarize and clarify the BES project efforts over the past year in order to help those involved in both local and national levels continue to appropriately plan and implement the program for the coming years.
