This document provides short descriptions of 125 programs providing job training and preemployment skills training for women in nontraditional occupations (primarily skilled trades and crafts). Eighteen exemplary programs in all regions of the country are described. These descriptions are followed by descriptions of other training programs, information and technical assistance programs, and outreach programs, in many states. For each program listed, information is given on administrative agency, address, contact person, telephone number, program services, and eligibility. Twenty-one appendixes, which comprise half the document, contain such supplemental materials as the following: lists of Women's Bureau regional offices; Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training regional and state offices; state apprenticeship councils, apprenticeship and information centers, and the federal committee on apprenticeship; offices of federal contract compliance programs; Job Corps regional offices; national offices of Joint Labor-Management Apprenticeship and Training Programs; state vocational sex equity coordinators; state employment service offices; apprenticeable occupations; sample curricula for 14-week and 20-week training programs; a literacy and employment training program model; a glossary; tables of nontraditional occupations for women, women in registered apprenticeships, and persons employed in the trades, by sex and occupation; National Tradeswomen's Network; selected national organizations involved in training or employment assistance; and a list of 120 publications related to women in nontraditional occupations.
