The 51 papers included in this symposium proceedings address gender equity issues in higher education, as well as some of the current research and programming designed to advance the education of girls and women in K-12 and higher education. Papers focus on six topics: (1) higher education curricula and classroom strategies that promote equity; (2) authority, policy, and empowerment in higher education; (3) strategies to effect change in higher education; (4) the roles of self-image and self-esteem in achieving equity; (5) ways to encourage girls in math and science; and (6) equity issues in K-12 education. Individual papers cover issues such as: faculty governance; dyadic interactions; women and authority; the campus living environment; the equitable workplace; school-college research and curriculum intervention; women in graduate school; maternity leave policies; gifted girls; mathematics and science education for girls; electronic intergenerational connections; gender equity; student-centered classrooms; nontraditional recruitment and vocational education; reentry women and their spouses; career paths; male versus female career choices; educational experiences of disadvantaged women; skill standards; tenure, professional relations, and strategic choices; women's studies; nursing education; women's athletics and Title IX; multiculturalism; and women administrators. Included also are a conference agenda and a list of committee assignments.
