This reports that health care providers, including those based in schools, can be instrumental in efforts to enroll eligible children in Medicaid or low-cost health insurance. There are 10 ways in which health care providers can help: (1) inform families about the availability of free and low-cost health insurance for children; (2) enlist all staff in outreach efforts; (3) encourage the state to position Medicaid eligibility workers in hospitals and clinics in the community; (4) persuade state officials to adopt the Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility option; (5) forge connections in the community; (6) incorporate application assistance into home-visiting and mobile health van programs; (7) partner with schools to identify and enroll eligible children; (8) play a role as a member of the business community and as an employer; (9) promote outreach through professional associations; and (10) participate in national efforts.
