- Summary:
-
Dimensions of Learning is an instructional model that is based on the premise that five types of thinking are essential to the learning process: (1) positive attitudes and perceptions about learning; (2) thinking involved in acquiring and integrating new learning; (3) thinking in extending and refining knowledge; (4) thinking in using knowledge meaningfully; and (5) productive habits of mind. The framework's strong grounding in research and theory makes it a natural partner for performance assessment. Assessment is seen as closely linked to teaching and learning, and it should therefore be conducted in a way that provides useful feedback to teachers, students, and parents. The second part of this book provides tools for performance assessment based on the Dimensions of Learning model. Examples of performance tasks are given, and rubrics are provided for specific tasks and situations. As defined for this work, rubrics consist of descriptions of four levels of performance for a given standard. Summary rubrics and rubrics for students to apply to tasks are also included. (SLD)
