Includes 35 letters from Louis Nowra to Dave Riley. Most of the letters are undated but cover the period from 1972 to 1990. They cover Nowra's travels in Europe, political events, his life in Brisbane and Sydney, writing projects, critical reception of his plays, the activities of his wife, Sarah, and comments on other people. There are two theatre programs, and newspaper and magazine reviews.

Dramatist, actor, author. Louis Nowra began playwriting at La Mama Theatre, Melbourne, in 1973. He was resident playwright of Sydney Theatre Company 1979-80 and associate director of Lighthouse Company in Adelaide 1982-83. Nowra has written plays, novels, films, opera libretti, radio and television plays, and translated European classics. (from: 'Companion to Theatre in Australia', 1988)
