Raymond Butler talks about his early childhood; his memories of his mother, Yvonne Gladys Fletcher and her arrest; his sister being placed in an institution; living with a family friend, Nell Brooks until her death; being placed in several institutions but absconding from many of them; his love of music; a serious illness which resulted in his hospitalisation for a lengthy period; his belief that being "in care" was beneficial to his development; his life after being institutionalised and gives anecdotes about his occupations; his time as a musician with Johnny O'Keefe; his business ventures; his thoughts on the apology to Indigenous Australians.
