Notebook containing a handwritten essay entitled "Australian natives". The essay relates a white settler's understanding of local Australian Aboriginal culture, lifestyle and psychology and includes language used by these local groups. The notebook also contains three posed photographs of Australian Aboriginal people. The essay is written in the hand of Mary Theresa McMahon but was possibly copied word-for-word from something written by a member of the Kerswell Family of the Burragorang Valley, perhaps as school work.

Mary Theresa McMahon (also known as Polly) grew up in the late 1800s on a property in the Burragorong Valley, N.S.W. She married Frederick Morton Eden in 1908.
