The music hall “masher” (male impersonator) and burlesque pioneer Fanny Robina (1862-1927) was the daughter of the music hall duo of George Newman (1826-1871) and Jennie Mortimer (1837-1874), known as the Australian nightingale, who began their career together in the 1850s on the Australian goldfields. They later toured England, where Fanny was born and started performing with her parents before her third birthday. After the early death of her parents, Fanny continued to perform solo in England and with her older sister Florrie, who was born in Australia. Fanny spent two years in Australia from 1886 to 1888 before returning to England for the remainder of her career.
Charles Melton Walcot first performed as Charles Brown, but later resumed his own name.
