"Philip Lyttelton Gell (1852-1926) was the grandson of Sir John Franklin by his first wife, Eleanor Porden. In December 1900 he registered the British Exploration of Australasia, Limited with the objectives of searching for mineral deposits in north-western Australia, using the newly developed railway line from Port Hedland to the Pilbara. Gell was Chairman of the board of directors from its inception, resigning in protest at the time of liquidation in 1909"--Hordern House News June 2013.
