Letters from missionaries to the general administration of the Society of Mary in France. They are mainly from missionaries in Fiji but some also relate to the Solomon Islands and Rotuma. There is a general correspondence from prefects and vicars apostolic, correspondence from other missionaries and reports from the missions. The records are valuable for the information they give on life in the islands and for accounts of the indigenous population. They contain details of the daily activities of the missionaries and the development of their respective stations together with the economic, political and spiritual state of the mission organization.

Catholic missionary order working in the Pacific. The first Marist missionaries were sent out from France in December 1836 and started work on Wallis and Fortuna Islands in November 1837.
