Born in Melbourne, Henry Legerton left Australia in 1939 to study in London with Stansilaw Idzikowski and Vera Volkova. He joined Antony Tudor's London Ballet in 1940 but returned to Australia shortly afterwards. In Australia he danced with the Kirsova Ballet in the company's 1941 and and 1942 seasons and also appeared in Australia in Leon Kellaway's short-lived Ballet nationale. With Kirsova he appeared in Kirsova's own works, including A Dream - and a Fairy Tale, Les Matelots, Vieux Paris and Faust and also partnered Rachel Cameron in Les Sylphides. Legerton returned to England at the end of World War II and worked extensively with Leonide Massine taking roles in A Bullet in the Ballet, La Boutique fantasque and Mam'zelle Angot, the latter two with Sadler's Wells Ballet. Later he was ballet master for the touring Royal Ballet and then regisseur at Covent Garden. Legerton died in London.
