- Description:
-
- Maybush, Southampton : Ordnance Survey, [1901-1947?]
- map ; 65 x 97 cm, on sheet 74 x 104 cm or smaller.
- Numbering Note:
- Each county was mapped and numbered at 1:10,560 (6 inches to the mile) scale, and each numbered 1:10,560 sheet within a county was divided into 16 1:2,500 sheets, numbered rowwise 1 to 16 from top left. Sheet designation was given as: County name, six-inch (1:10,560) sheet number in Roman numerals, 1:2500 sheet number in Arabic numerals. For example, Edinburghshire IV 1 is the first (i.e. top-left) 1:2500 sheet within the sheetline of Edinbusghshire 1:10,560 sheet IV. In some cases smaller adjoining counties were surveyed on the same meridian and sheetline grid, but still have their sheets separately numbered from each other; sheets covering county boundaries could therefore have two or three designations, one pertaining to each county. See Richard Oliver "Ordnance Survey maps: a concise guide for historians", London : Charles Close, 1993; "Ordnance Survey of Great Britain - England and Wales: indexes to the 1:2500 and 6-inch scale maps", Kerry: David Archer, 1991 ; and "Ordnance Survey of Great Britain - Scotland: indexes to the 1:2500 and 6-inch scale maps", Kerry: David Archer, 1993.
