George Bull was a Sydney journalist and writer who was interested in theatrical affairs and specialised in music-hall criticisms and theatrical gossip. In Sydney he worked on the Sydney Star, the Tribune and the Bulletin before moving to England in 1896 to join the staff of the Daily Mail. He was a prominent member of the Savage Club. Bull was born in Islington, London in 1859, and passed away in London in 1916. Prior to his departure for London in 1896 a testimonial matinee was held to farewell him from Sydney, which was held with the support of the managements and leading members of the theatrical and musical community, including Harry Rickards of the Tivoli Theatre. The program also featured Florrie Forde, a year prior to her departure to England.
