The Broken Heel Festival was presented as a three day tribute to the film "Priscilla Queen of the Desert", recognising its legacy 21 years after its release. The Festival's website explains that the Broken Heel Festival was "programmed to give Priscilla the Birthday Bash every 21 year old deserves (including the awkward family photos & speeches)" and described the festival as "...a handbag stuffed full of stunning Drag Queens & Drag Kings from around the nation delivering their finest performances as they pay homage to a movie that changed their lives". The festival presented cabaret, comedy, opera and live music, and was focused on the Palace Hotel in Broken Hill, where scenes from the film were shot.
