- Biography/History:
-
"The Wakefield Oil Company was founded in England in 1899, and the brand "Castrol" originated after researchers added castor oil to their lubricant formulations. Castrol has been a major world sponsor of car rally racing, but for the Australian Bicentennial World Rally the event was a showcase for veteran and vintage vehicles, in which the “competitors” travelled from Australian capital cities to converge at Canberra; 1150 vehicles took part; the largest such gathering in the world."--acquisitions documentation.
