Do Theatre was founded in 1987 as an experimental physical and dance theatre company, and has been described as one of the most influential groups to have come out of post-Communist Russia. The company is known for extreme physical theatre and experimental dance, and describes itself as having created a dance language known as Russian Modernism which is "brutal, demanding, yet infused with poetic tension". Since the early 1990's DoTheatre have been based in Germany. The Company and have collaborated internationally, toured to major dance and theatre festivals, and been awarded three Edinburgh Festival awards. They toured to Australia in 2002 with Hopeless Games, a joint production with fabrik Potsdam.
