The anti-nuclear movement in Australia has a long history. Several groups specifically concerned with nuclear issues were established in the mid-1970s, one of which was the Movement Against Uranium Mining. The 1980 Hiroshima Day march and rally in Sydney, sponsored by the movement, used the slogans "Keep uranium in the ground" and "No to nuclear war."
