Esmai Manahan, born 1951, Pascoe Vale, Vic. Manahan speaks about her parents and their activism for Aboriginal rights. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Manahan worked with the Aboriginal Advancement League. She outlines the role and organization of the League. She later worked with troubled youth through Victorian Youth and Community Services and the Aboriginal Child Care Agency. She describes the Agency's work with child placements, adoptions and family reunions. From the mid-1980s until 1992, Manahan managed the Margaret Tucker Hostel for young Aboriginal women at risk. She has also worked with the National Indigenous Program for the Australian Chamber of Commerce, the Koori Gardening Team at the Living Museum of the West, the Aboriginal Arts Distribution Project, and the Koori Business Network.
