Sixty-four letters, including eight from J. Henry Vyvyan to his uncle Sir Richard Rawlinson Vyvyan, describing conditions in New Zealand, land regulations, copper mining, the difficulties of his farming life, and the obstacles to his return to England. The bulk of the remaining letters are from J. H. Vyvyan's father, Reverend Vyell Vyvyan, and his uncle Sir Richard Rawlinson Vyvyan.
- Biography/History:

Vyvyan left England in 1853 and settled at Motueka, near Nelson, New Zealand. He bought a sheep property there but was forced to return to Cornwall in 1868 for economic reasons. He was the nephew of Sir Richard Rawlinson Vyvyan (1800-79), a Tory parliamentarian.
