- Summary:
-
“Australia is a nation rich in natural resources. It is the world’s largest exporter of certain commodities and a major oil and gas producer. Activities relating to the use, planning and conservation of natural resources are subject to legal rules provided by both national and international law. The aim of this book is to introduce students to natural resources law as a distinct subject of law, being concerned with the conservation, use and development of resources such as water, fisheries, forests and minerals. Natural resources law is increasingly regarded as interesting and overlapping with environmental law, especially since the adoption of “ecologically sustainable development” as a conceptual framework for both. However, the regulation of particular natural resources subjects, such as mining, has existed for much longer than the body of law known as environmental law. Therefore this book also considers how the law addresses issues of overlap between different natural resources sectors and the environment.”--Back cover.
