A travel poster divided into three, with white text against a red outline map of Australia in front of a blue background at the top, a view of a busy port in the middle, and additional text and graphics at the bottom. Roundels in each corner show an emu, kangaroo, the company flag and logo. The poster depicts the P&O ocean liner RMS Mooltan in the middle distance. It was completed in 1923 and at the time one of the largest ships that could pass through the Suez Canal, used for the voyage from England to Australia and New Zealand via Colombo, the near exotic destination of Egypt, and other Eastern services, such as China and Japan.
Charles Dixon was a member of the Royal Academy and a well-regarded painter of maritime scenes in both watercolor and oil. He worked for many different shipping companies, designing posters for the P & O Line, the Aberdeen Line, the Red Star Line, the French Line, the Khedivial Mail Line and the White Star Line. -Vendor's catalogue.
