Correspondence, deeds of partnerships, leases, agreements, diaries, newspaper articles, reviews, programmes, playbills, reports, photographs. The papers cover Coppin's theatrical career and there is also material on political elections and freemasonry. There are many papers on G.V. Brooke and on the Australasian Dramatic and Musical Association. There are biographical manuscripts written by both Coppin and his daughter. The correspondents include Lucy Coppin, James Coppin, Andrew Birrell, H. Edwards, W. White and Roland Woodward. The collection also contains many papers accumulated by E.D.A. Bagot when writing his book Coppin the Great. The papers include drafts of the book, correspondence, notes, articles, lists of sources and receipts.

Actor, theatre manager, politician. Arrived in Australia 1843. Acquired ownership of New Queen's Theatre, Adelaide in 1846, Theatre Royal, Melbourne in 1856 and Haymarket, Melbourne in 1862. Toured Australia, New Zealand and America as a comic actor and engaged noted actors for Australian tours. Member of Victorian Legislative Council 1858-1863, 1889-1895, and Member of Legislative Assembly 1874-1877, 1883-1888.
