The Committee's brief was to review parliamentary, government and commission reports on Indigenous education and training during the past ten years, to assess the recommendations made in these reports and to investigate the extent to which they had been implemented; in the year of the tenth anniversary of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Policy, the Committee found that equity for Indigenous students in most educational sectors had not been achieved, but there were major improvements in Year 12 completion and participation in vocational education and training; remote, rural and urban needs in education; includes detailed recommendations.
