- Summary:
-
Three blood brothers born and raised in Selsdon near Croydon in Surrey left their homeland in the mid eighteenth century in search of a better life. John sailed to New Zealand where he married Rachel Bentley and became the first settler at Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula. William and James went to Victoria and worked on road and rail construction when Flinders Street Station was built. In later years, James joined John in New Zealand and managed rail contracts for David Proudfoot. This is the story of their lives and the lives of their descendants who fought for their county in war time and made names for themselves in industry, nursing and politics.
