"The terms of reference for this evaluation study of the Indo-Australian Central Sheep Breeding Project at Hissar were as summarised in the following statement of objectives: (i) To determine and delineate the achievement of the project to date, (ii) To pinpoint problems which have arisen, how they have been overcome and how they could be avoided in the future in this and similar projects, (iiI) To examine the arrangements being made for further propagation of improved breeds of sheep and the steps necessary to fully capitalise on the work completed to date, (iv) To assess the likely costs and benefits attaching to the project and to determine to what members of the community these accrue, (v) To determine any reorientation which may be available in the light of India's present needs. The field study for this report was undertaken over the period 26 October - 22 November by a team consisting of Dr Helen Newton Turner, Dr R.H. Watson and Mr C.S. McKay. To fulfil the objectives outlined above it was necessary to look more widely than the Hissar farm itself, to talk with and users of wool and to visit some of the areas in India where Corriedales and Corriedale cross-breeds are being used."--Introduction.
