"Extracts in this book are taken from 'Mercia a Song of Love.' This story is merely a record of time spent in Papua New Guinea a country of very different culture and how my nurse friends and I worked harmoniously with people regardless of race, colour and creed. The text is unabridged due to time constraints. It is 50 years since I started out when as a young woman to see the world, I chose to nurse in Papua New Guinea. As a busy wife, mother, nurse and later nurse/historian and now grandmother time is of the essence to 'get things down on paper.' The photographs included in this book highlight history and as the old adage states, 'A picture tells a thousand words.' Consequently, I only ask the reader focus on the contents and ignore any typo errors. I make only two amendments the Rabaul volcano mentioned should read Matupit and the syndrome one of my patients suffered from was Guillain barre syndrome." -- Title page verso.
