Photograph was taken at the start of the restrictions on non-essential gatherings due to COVID-19. It captures the traditional theatre practice of the 'ghost light', a single light used to illuminate a theatre, both as a practical safety measure, and to ward off or appease ghosts. The Sydney Opera House adopted the ghost light tradition in its main theatre spaces when forced to cancel performances and close to the public. The image captures an impact of COVID-19 on the performing arts.-- based on information from acquisitions documentation.
