- See The Holy City, 1949. "'Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.' Descending the flight of steps that lead from the sanctuary of Calvary to the gournd floor of the church, we come to the Stone of the Anointing. The polished red stone stands where once stood an oratory in memory of the anointing of the lifeless body of Christ according to the Jewish custom. The site belongs in common to Latins, Greeks, Armenians and Copts".
