- See The Holy City, 1949 and cover. "From the Jaffa Gate the Street of David runs eastward to the Gate of the Chain, the principal entrance to the Haram esh sharif. All day long the colourful pageant of Eastern life passes by. Rabbis on their way to the Wailing Wall, students of Moslem religious law coming from the Mosque, Christian pilgrims, peasant farmers from the hills, Bedouin tribesmen, and tourists from the West come and go. Idlers sit on wooden stools against the walls, sip coffee, and gossip the hours away".
