nection with the Home Mission appeal.
The league has guaranteed" to raise £300 a
year toward the salary of the Home Mis
sion director.
Mr., A. S. Canning, a member of the
Federal Income Tax Board of Review, who
with other members has been visiting Ade
laide, will leave by the express this after
noon for Melbourne. Messrs. A. F. Twine
and R. M. Lightband will leave tomorrow
The board will begin sittings in the Vic
torian capital on Monday.
Mir..Gilbert Barrien, F.A.I.I. (manager
of 'the Colonial Mutual Fire Insurance
Company, Limited, in South Australia)
has' been elected president of the Insur
ance Institute of South Australia for
1927-8. He has rendered miuch valuable
service to the institute, of which he was
the.honorary secretary from 1020 to 1923.
Mr. Barrien has been associated with the
Colonial Mutual Fire Insurance Company
for riearly 30 years, and is recognised as
being exceedingly well versed in fire in
surance, lie became manager of the
South Australian branch of the company
in October, 19:23, following the retirement
of Mr. John Entwistle.
Mrs: Sophia Mary Finkelstein was killed
in Darlinghurst, Sydney, last week as the
result of a motor accident. She was well
known and liked during her residence in
Adelaide, where her husband, Mr. Mendel
Finkelstein, was for some years manager
of Wondergraph Theatre and the Palais
Royale. Mrs. Finkelstein was always a
willing helper and a liberal giver in the
cause of charity. She was a daughter of
the late MIr. Moses Brandon, who until
his death was prominent in the business
world of Adelaide. About 12 months ago
Mr. and Mrs. Finkelstein went to Sydney
to live, and the latter opened a florist's
shop. She has left one daughter, Miss
Vera Finkelstein.
Mr. James A. Summers, who will arrive
in Adelaide on November 17, was a
Irominent competitor some years ago at
the South Street (Ballarat) competitions,
and is well-known to physical culturists
in Adelaide. He is national . physical
director for South American branches of
the Young Men's Christian Association,
arid is also a dean of the training college
for South American association secre
taries. During the great war Mr. Sum
mers was in charge of the Canadian
branch of the association in Great Bri
tain, and later became physical director
at the Mildmay training college, Eng
land. He is a graduate of Springfield
(United States) University. and his pre
sent position is considered one of the
most responsible in the movement.
