Biographical / Historical
Isaac Briggs (1815-1910), the son of a canal engineer, was one of the early railway engineers and contractors. In 1839 he married Sarah Shaw and in 1850 they settled in Sandal, near Wakefield. They had eight children.

Biographical / Historical
The worsted manufacturer Fred Armitage Lodge (d. 1953) took over Winker Green Mills in Armley in 1919 and the Stone Bridge Mill in Leeds in 1931. Ownership was transferred to Fred A. Lodge & Sons in 1946.

Biographical / Historical
William Walsham How (1823-1897) was ordained in 1846. In 1851 he became rector of Whittington in Shropshire. He was appointed suffragen Bishop of London in 1879 and the first Bishop of Wakefield in 1888.
