Content Description
The archive includes Penny Tweedie's photojournalist activities including war and conflicts in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The archive documents her interraction with Aboriginal Australia beginning in 1975 leading to a number of published works and the 1999 Walkley Award for photojournalism.

He was born in the 1960s at Oenpelli, and currently lives there. His language is Mayali (Kunwinjku), his clan Wardjak, his moiety Duwa. "This painting is kumoken, crocodile, and namarnkol, barramundi, my totems from my clan country, Wardjak near Injalak. Plenty of crocodile in that creek. Kumoken is freshwater crocodile - not dangerous one for humans, just eats barramundi and bream. I'm painting these creatures that live in the creeks and billabongs in my coutnry, and I'm showing the waterlilies and other water plants they feed off."

They came to this place looking for water, but the female dog couldn't climb the cliff, so Adjumarllarl left her and climbed the cliff, dug into the rock and made the waterfall. When he returned the female dingo had turned into tha tthree-legged rock near here. "I am painting since I was a boy, painting my country, my totems, painting my special waterhole, Milmildjarrk, that one made by the Djangkawu sisters with their digging stick. We sing and dance Milmildjarrk in our ceremonies. And I paint the story of Gurrumurringu the great hunter. That one they call 'dollar note' painting because it was printed on the one-dollar note. It shows the mortuary rites for the great hunter, Gurrumurringu, who was killed by Dharpa, the evil snake." - David Malangi

No one can paint other people's Dreamings.' This painting is about the creation time when the magpie geese flew across this country with a piece of feathered string. They laid that string across the swamp and it became land. We call that place Burgumara." - George Milpurrurru. George's art is held in over a dozen collections in Australia and overseas. A powerful medicine man and important ceremonial leader, he was born in 1936 at Badigalimak, near Mulgurrum. George's language is Ganalbing, his clan Gumang, his moiety Yirritja.

Shelter at Kalobidada ranged from simple bark shades to enclosed bark huts and the platform version used by Mandarg and his family. The platform hut is cooler in the dry season and drier in the wet season.
