Scope and Content
Alexander Berry's account of the destruction of the ship Boyd and massacre of the captain and crew by the natives of Wangaroa, New Zealand. This account appears to have been written after 1829.
Background
Pioneer merchant. Joined the East India Co. in 1807 and became part-owner of supercargo City of Edinburgh'. In 1808 he voyaged to various Pacific Islands and New Zealand where in 1809 he rescued a woman, her infant, a small girl and ship's boy of the Boyd' from the Maoris.
