THE RISING SUN

Journal of the A.I.F. in France. (With which is incorporated "The Monk.")

No. 11. Somewhere in France. February Ist, 1917. PhicE :%d.

MEMORY.

The coast was Allah?s and we could not stay,

But we dug deep into his holy land,

We met them there and now they understand

How men can die who know not Allah?s way.

We came like, shadows o?er the sea one day,

And being young we cared not what was planned,

We gave them all we had*?red steel hand to hand

Then threw the sea between for aye and aye.

And yet, down by that old enchanted sea

We left guard of dead men in their care

They loved life well, but what, those dead men

found

We never knew, for none came back to us.

But, all the world pays homage to them there

Beneath that alien cross on Allah?s ground.

Awake for Brummy has the fire alight,

And cooked the oats the Batmen put to flight

And lo the Hunter of the cheese has caught

The Quarter?s porridge in noose of light.

Dreaming when Brum?s black hand was in pie,

heard voice within the possie cry

?Awake, oh, Dios come and have sup,

Before the bally Batmen drink it dry.?

Oh, my beloved fill the cup that cheers,

And put the hard word on churn for beers
