Fix this textColonial Offi.ce resolved themselves into the mere modification of
Fix this textthe management of the colonial land fund. But this risible ten-
Fix this textdency gave way to serious and well-grounded alarm when it was
Fix this textdiscovered that the proposed measures, so far from promoting,
Fix this textwould have the effect of retarding emigration, and that the efforts
Fix this textof the press must be directed not to the extension, but the preser-
Fix this textvation, of the remainder of our colonial power. Influenced by
Fix this textthis consideration, we leave to abler hands the task of reprobating
Fix this textthe supine indifference of the government to emigration, and shall
Fix this textcontent ourselves with analyzing the plan which they have pro-
Fix this textpounded, and suggesting some measures which may add to its
Fix this textutility, if, indeed, it be not altogether inefficient and beyond the
