LAW  

project jointly funded by the NSW  

Law Foundation and the Office of Multic-  

ultural affairs.  

New Land New Law is series of  

multilingual programs for women about  

the law and the way it affects their lives.  

When immigrant women arrive in  

Australia they step into new and often  

confusing legal system. It is saturated with  

language and concepts that are difficult for  

many Australians to understand, regardless  

of their backgrounds. Women from non-  

English speaking backgrounds often find  

themselves in legal tangles simply because  

they have not been told their basic legal  

rights.  

This multilingual radio series, pro-  

duced by the Immigrant Women’s Resource  

Centre and 2SER-FM will provide women  

with this vital information in Khmer, Can-  

tonese, Vietnamese, Laotian, Serbian,  

Turkish, Spanish, Arabic and English.  

Experts from the legal and related  

sectors speak about legal rights, legal proc-  

esses, legal resources and give basic legal  

advice for all women. The topics covered:  

1. Australian Law the legal system and  

legal terminology  

2. Family Law  

3. The Law and Social Security  

4. Violence in the Home and the Law  

5. Immigration Law  

6. Working and the Law work, outwork  

and anti-discrimination  

7. Work Safety and the Law  

8. Your Home and the Law

TALKING TO NEW  

ENGLAND  

Mondays -10 pm.  

This is the Fifth year of 2SER-FM’s  

unique distance education radio series, pro-  

duced in association with the University of  

New England.  

The programs are aimed at current and  

potential external studies students, and have  

also attracted other listeners as they have  

happened upon this ‘open tutorial’.  

Each program involves lecturers at  

UNE in Armidale, discussing coursework  

with students, using 2SER-FM’s talk-back  

system, and landline connections from 2SER-  

FM to Armidale studios.  

The program is also relayed ‘live’ to  

eight other stations throughout NSW.  

This year, the series will have new  

feature, as it will include participation from  

the UNE’s Northern Rivers campus in Lis-  

more UNE's University’s Orange campus,  

and Sturt University's campus at Bathurst.  

Assuming Telecom and our own people  

manage to connect all the right places at the  

right time, the programs will be:

THE MEDIA,  

WOMEN AND  

DRUGS  

2SER-FM, Sydney’s educational  

public radio station has received major  

grant from the Minister for Community  

Services and Health.  

grant of $44,500 has been made  

to the station for project entitled ‘The  

Media, Women and Drug Education”.  

The project will comprise research  

and radio programming components. It  

will compile details of radio programs on  

drugs for women, assessing the strengths  

and weaknesses of these productions, and  

identifying gaps in the broadcasts to date.  

Then the station will develop se-  

ries of interactive programs to further  

clarify and give personal meaning to the  

many issues involved.
