News

New

Manager

In month of changes on-air, there

have been some major changes off-air.

Our manager since 1983, John Martin,

has left the station to pursue career in private

sector narrowcasting. He has left solid

station that is facing some new and exciting

challanges for the 1990'5.

John, forever the quiet worker, was

responsible for some important innovations

at the station. The most enduring is the

development and lease of our ancillary com-

munication facilities (ACS or Sub Carrier).

Ours was one of the first available in

Sydney. The sale of the service provides the

station with an important continuing income

source.

Kaye Blackman, the stations Program

Manager for the last years is the nefwly

appointed Station Manager. am sure that

you our subscribers join station staff and vol-

unteers in wishing Kaye all the best, and in

thanking John for his responsible manage-

ment over the last years.

Staff Changes

We say goodbye, and welcome several

staff. Admin. Officer Irene Lavermicocca

leaves us. HSC producer Mick O'Regan is off

to ABC Radio Current Affairs. Christina Al-

varez, our part-time producer at Macquarie

goes to study Masters in the USA. Rebecca

Coyle and Sarina Locke leave Media Maga-

zine for travel, and Simon Nicholas joins us

as the programs new producer. Best of luck!

Specials

HSC Any Questions

“It’s one of those perennial

questions....where do the HSC students go

between July and November?" (Maybe

where the flies go in winter?).

Well, for those of you about to disap-

pear down the text book tunnel REMEM-

BER THE RADIO!!!

2SER is again presenting HSC ANY

QUESTIONS, scries of forty programs

covering eight subject areas of the HSC

course.

Since its inception in 1985, HSC Any

Questions has been both an innovative study

technique and source of vital information

for the swat squadrons of Year 12. (For

instance, do you know the Pacific island

nation that has land mass roughly the area

of greater Sydney spread over an area of

ocean greater than Australia? Answer in the

third geography program on 18 Ju1y....)

This year the series has been produced

by Mick O’Regan, aided and abetted by Roz

Bluett.

The subjects covered are English,

History, Geography, Chemistry, Physics,

Biology, Economics and General Studies.

As usual the programs are designed to

include academic analyses of the topics and

some practical tips on the best way to pre-

pare for the sort of questions that get asked.

HSC Any Questions begins on Wed-

nesday July at 9.00 pm.

First cab off the rank is the Geography

program on Tibet, so listen and discover

exactly who lives on ground millet and yak

butter.

Oh, and by the way, good luck in the

exams.

The Many Faces of

Documentary

Tuesday 17th and 24th July, Bpm.

2SER will present series of eight

documentaries produced by third year Mass

Communications students from Macquarie

University.

The programs cover range of topics

including the moon, matchmaking and rock

music.

Tune into these documentaries for an

entertaining and informative evening.

“1969 Just Who Was Off The Planet?”

by Dave Broadfield-White

It was the last year of the 60’s. Hell’s Angels were

tearing around on Harleys, brandishing pool cues;

teenage boys were getting their buns shot off in

Vietnam and half million American groovers

were turning on and tuning in at rock festival

called “Woodstock”.

Throw away your inhibitions, pull on those flairs,

light that incense and let it all hang out man.

“The Moon in Two Cultures”

by Natalie Daniel and Anita Chang.

The mystery and magic surrounding the moon has

been destroyed to great extent by the American

moon landing in 1969 but for many people in

different cultures the moon remains the force

behind myths, fables and stories.

What does the moon mean to the Chinese people

and how are Western ideas different?

“The Mating Game”

by Anne Stewart and Emily O’Connell

Matchmaking in the 1990’s from an exclusively

female viewpoint. Who are the pro fessional match-

makers? How do they find compatible couples?

An examination of organised dating services is

presented. The personal experience of women

meeting partners are also recounted.

“Kohl”

by Jenny Marr and Greg Jennett

This documentary on coal-mining focuses on the

creative side of the mines. It examines the various

forms of music that evolved throughout the last
