Biographical Note

Henrietta Jull was born in Perth in 1901. In 1921 she married Geoff Drake-Brockman, then Commissioner for the far north west of Australia. They travelled extensively in north western Australia and this formed the basis of her articles for the West Australian and her novels Blue north (1934), The younger son (1937) and The fatal days (1947).

Drake-Brockman also wrote for the theatre in the 1930s and 1940s. She was co-editor with Walter Murdoch of Australian Short Stories (1951).

Drake-Brockman joined the Sydney branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers in 1939 and was one of the founders of the West Australian Branch, becoming president in 1941 and again in 1956-1957. She was awarded an O.B.E. in 1967 and died in 1968.
