MS 6209 comprises a letterbook entitled "Estate of the late J.H. Bettington" kept by Frederick Dangar on behalf of Dangar, Gedye and Malloch from 1872 to 1889. Several loose letters were found inside the volume, the correspondents including Samuel Gull, M.H. Bettington and R. Smith (1 folder).
Background
The shipping firm of Dangar, Gedye and Malloch was founded by Frederick Holkham Dangar. He managed it until 1882. Dangar was the surname of a family distinguished in pastoral and other pursuits in the Newcastle area.
