Australian Intermediate Base  

îi 0.4, Rond Point Suares,  

Sharia Zasr-el-Nil,  

CAIRO, Ißth February, 1915.  

It is notified for the guidance of Units requiring to  

send soldiers home to Australia for discharge for medical  

or other reasons, that the following procedure is to be  

observed:  

The following are the approving authorities for the  

following Units:  

(a)lst Auat.Divn. G.O.C., 1st Aust.Divn.  

jb) 1st L.H.Bde. G.O.C., A.& N.Z.Divn.  

(c) 2nd L.H.Bde. To be notified later -/Q  

(d) 4th Infantry Bde G.O.C., .& H.Z.4-H^=&§¥pe·.'  

(e) L.of .Units other  

than A.M.C. To be notified later.  

(f) A.M.C. L.of 0.Units  

All cases for discharge, medical or otherwise, are, as  

general rule, to be sent home for this purpose. Only in  

exceptional cases should application for the discharge  

of men abroad be forwarded to approving authority, and  

then only upon dischargees signing an agreement that they  

have no further claim on the Commonwealth for passages  

or in any other respect. In all cases in which it  

is proposed to Invalid an officer or man, he· is to be  

brought before Medical Board.  

Upon approval being given for the return to Australia of  

officers and men, Headquarters of the A.I.P. Division,  

Brigade, or other Unit concerned will inform the Officer  

Commanding, Australian Intermediate Base Depot, and  

forward to him  

(a) return in triplicate showing in the case of  

officers rank, name, cause of return and unit,  

and in the case of n.c.o's. and men, number,  

rank, name, unit, and cause of return.  

(b) In the case of those returned as medically unfit  

he will also forward the proceedings of the  

medical board in triplicate, confirmed by  

approving authority, one for retention by Base,  

one for transmission to the War Office, and one  

for the Defence Department, Melbourne and  

state  

i) The nature of the complaint.  

ii) Number of "lying down", "sitting up”,  

and requiring special arrangement.  

(c) The Headquarters concerned will inform the  

officer or man’s C.O., and if in Hospital the  

O.C. Hospital.  

ii. (a) Cases for discharge other than for medical reasons  

are to be sent to the Base Details Gamp, Abbassia, under  

suitable escort, and handed over to the Commandant of  

the Camp. At least twentyfour hours notice is to be  

given, and one days rations are to be carried.  

Tb) Prisoners undergoing detention should be handed over  

at the train by units concerned.  

(c) No accomodation for medical cases exists at the Base  

Details Camp, Abbassia, and therefore such cases are not  

to be sent there. They are to be handed over at the  

train by Hospitals and Units concerned, to the medical  

personnel detailed to take charge of them.
