Biographical Note

Samuel Mauger (1857-1936) was a prominent Victorian social reformer and Liberal politician. He was active in the Anti-Sweating League and advocated protectionism, prohibition and a white Australia. He moved from state to federal politics in 1901 and, after serving as Post-Master General from 1907 to 1908 under Deakin, he lost his seat in 1910.
