Biographical Note
James Griffyth Fairfax (1886-1976) was born in Sydney, the grandson of Sir James Fairfax of the Sydney Morning Herald. He spent most of his life in England, only visiting Australia for brief periods. He was a lawyer who sat in the House of Commons. In Australia he was best known as a poet, and he had a number of volumes published by Fairfax between 1906 and 1937. Fairfax served in the First World War; four of his "Mesopotamia" poems were included in Valour and visions:poems of the war, 1914-18 (1920).
