Introduction

Scope and Contents

Material covered includes his involvement in the Labor party from 1927 and his service as Alderman and Mayor of Lithgow. It also documents his service as member for Macquarie from 1951 until 1975.

The collection includes letters,pamphlets, diaries, newspaper clippings and official publications. There are two sets of subject files, one dealing with Luchetti's political career and the second dealing with other subjects. The Luchetti papers have been arranged into thirteen series.

Series 1. Political Career

This series covers Luchetti's career in politics, beginning with his involvement with the local Labor branch in Lithgow. Covered are such things as Luchetti's service as Ben Chifley's campaign manager in Macquarie, as well as Luchetti's own candidature for both Lang Labor and Official Labor in Macquarie during the 1930's.

Also covered are luchetti's victorious 1951 campaign in Macquarie, the 1953 Election, 1966 Election and the 1972 campaign in which Labor won government.

Series 8. Glen Davis

This series deals with material on Glen Davis where oil shale was mined from the 1930s until 1945. Luchetti was an enthusiastic believer in the shale oil industry as the answer to Australia's energy needs. The material includes the history of the industry plus attempts to re-establish it during the early 1970's.

Series 12. Notebooks and Scrapbook

The notebooks, date from various times, the first is from 1963 when Luchetti and his wife were on a boat trip to Western Australia. The second, pencil notes for a speech, may be much older. The third item, dated 1977, deals with the Calare (formerly Macquarie) electorate council. the fourth is a scrap book of indeterminate age.
