Fix this textProfessor Rupert Myers
Fix this textThe University of New South Wales is 30 years old. It has
Fix this textover 18,000 students and 4,000 staff, and buildings and
Fix this textequipment worth $2OO million. It's a fascinating culmina-
Fix this texttion of hard work, faith, patience, ingenuity, and
Fix this textdevotion on the part of its staff and students, made
Fix this textpossible by splendid support and encouragement of
Fix this textgovernments and the public.
Fix this textOpen Day, which we have every two years, provides us
Fix this textwith an opportunity to say thankyou to the community
Fix this textwhich sustains us and to let the citizens of Sydney and
Fix this textbeyond see something of what we do. Not that you'll be
Fix this textable to see it all, unless you are blessed with amazing
Fix this textstamina, because there's an astonishing variety even in
Fix this textthe limited amount we are able to show on this one day.
Fix this textIn order to see everything the University has to offer you
Fix this textwould need weeks rather than a day, and some of what
Fix this textwe do cannot really be 'seen'. There is a great deal of very
Fix this textimportant work that is intangible, invisible but very
Fix this textmuch of the essence of the University. What we are able
Fix this textto show you therefore represents only part of our
Fix this textactivity, but I hope it's enough to convince you that what
Fix this textwe are doing is worthwhile.
Fix this textWe will be happy if you find that the day is entertaining
Fix this textas well as educational. We are, of course, devoted to the
Fix this textpursuit of truth, the advancement of knowledge and the
Fix this textbetterment of the world in which we live, but we also
Fix this texthave joy in living and a friendliness that we hope you
Fix this textwill find infectious.
Fix this textWelcome to the University of New South Wales. If you
Fix this textneed help, please ask!

Fix this textThe van, developed by Mr David Gosden, Lecturer in the School,

Fix this textSo, if you want to have a preview of the sort of vehicle we may
