Dr. Ewen Mackenzie

Eduction of Dr. Ewen MacKenzie to the

arge of the mission stations of Malo and

oS'ugu, New Hebrides, took place under the dir-

pd° of the Sydney Presbytery, at Scots’

-hurch, on Thursday, October Ist.

The Moderator of the Presbytery, Rev. A.

leming presided and conducted the service, Rev.

• J- H. McGowan (Foreign Missions Con-

r»ener/, narrated the steps that led to Dr. Mac-

kenzie appointment, and after the usual ques-

’°ns Dr. MacKenzie was inducted with the

dand of fellowship of members of the

dresbytery.

Rev. C. E. James then gave the address. He

referred to the unique fact that all the members

of the New Hebrides Synod, who, at their meet-

ing in 1924 attested their pleasure in having Dr.

MacKenzie among them again, were also present

at Synod 12 years ago. This denotes degree

of permanence in the work in the New Hebrides,

rarely found now in any field, at home or abroad.’

He spoke of the veteran Father of the Mission,

Rev. Peter Milne, whose epitaph, after more than

50 years of service, included the words:—‘‘He

brought thousands to Christ”—and compared the

joy of such missionary service, toilsome as it

may be or with its own difficulties and dangers,

and the frequent disappointments of work in so-

called Christian lands.

Dr. MacKenzie then addressed the meeting

telling of his former experiences on Santo, dur-

ing his fifteen years’ residence there. He knows

Nogugu well and its people, and his elder daugh-

ter was born there, while his brother, Rev. Noble

MacKenzie was the missionary. Mrs. MacKenzie

also spoke very acceptably and appealed for the

interest of the women, through whom their hus-

band and sons will also be interested. She es-

pecially appealed to mothers to interest their

little children in missions.

Mr. and Mrs. George Stewart, late of Nogugu,

were also present, and fair attendance of inter-

ested friends.

An appeal was made for typewriter for Dr.

MacKenzie, also gifts for the Christmas boxes.

Dr. MacKenzie leaves for his field of labour

next month.

Announcement.

The W.M.A. Quarterly Meeting., to which all

members are invited, will be held at St. Stephen’s

Church on Thursday, October I.sth at 2.30 p.m.

Mrs. Ewen Mackenzie will speak on Work in the

New Hebrides.
